Land Governance in the Global South: Infrastructure Investment and Inclusive Growth 「全球南方」土地治理:基礎設施投資與包容性增長 In recent years, climate change, energy transition, green finance, and infrastructure development have been reshaping growth trajectories in the Global South. Land is no longer merely a foundation for agricultural production and local governance. It has increasingly become a key platform for clean energy projects, transport corridors, regional connectivity, and sustainable and resilient infrastructure. These changes create new opportunities for investment, green transition, and development cooperation, while also raising important questions about land access, community participation, benefit sharing, environmental impacts, and local governance. The Centre on Contemporary China and the World (CCCW) at the University of Hong Kong is scheduled to host a high-level international symposium on September 8, 2026, titled Land Governance in the Global South: Infrastructure and Inclusive Growth. The event will bring together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners in development studies, international relations, financing systems, ESG strategy, and public policy to discuss how to leverage land management as an entry point to contribute ideas for better infrastructure investment and inclusive growth in the Global South while China and relevant development partners deepen their exploration of global governance. CCCW’s vision and mission are to become a global hub focused on the governance of China and the world. With the convergence of talent across geographies, disciplines, and perspectives, we aspire to address unprecedented challenges such as technological transformation, climate change and alternative energy, economic and financial reforms, political leadership and generational transition, and geopolitical landscape shifts, with a particular emphasis on Sino‑U.S. relationship and the Global South.
